Supervisor Simitian and City of Mountain View to hold Civility Roundtable
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MOUNTAIN VIEW – County Supervisor Joe Simitian will moderate a “Civility Roundtable” titled How Can We Prevent Ferguson from Happening in Mountain View? on Wednesday, April 22, at the Senior Center in conjunction with the City of Mountain View.
The roundtable, sponsored by the City’s Human Relations Commission, will address questions of public safety, race, and community confidence in law enforcement raised by the tragic events in Ferguson, Missouri, and elsewhere around the country over the last year.
“We can’t afford to just accept these tragedies as unavoidable or inevitable,” said Simitian. “We need to think about how to improve relationships, keep folks safe, and avoid a similar tragedy here. The questions are simple. I suspect the answers are not.”
The community dialogue will feature:
- Mountain View Chief of Police Max Bosel
- Judge LaDoris Cordell, San Jose Independent Police Auditor
- Community Member, Ramiro Blancarte
- Mountain View Police Officer Marco Garcia
- Santa Clara University Law Professor Margalynne J. Armstrong
